Our story
A small studio with a quiet obsession for clay.
Lumina Ceramics began in a converted garage in Portland, Oregon in 2019, where our founder Mara spent evenings learning to throw on a secondhand wheel. What started as a personal ritual became a studio of three, making stoneware meant to be held, used, and lived with every day.
We believe the objects we reach for each morning should be made by people, not machines. That's why every mug, bowl, and vase is wheel-thrown, hand-glazed, and high-fired in small batches — with the slight imperfections that prove a human hand was there.
Throw
Each form is shaped by hand on the wheel from locally sourced stoneware clay.
Glaze
We mix our glazes in-house, favoring earthy matte tones and natural iron speckle.
Fire
Pieces are high-fired to cone 6 for durability and a lasting, chip-resistant finish.
